Comment: Speaking of trip reports, I just read Derek's report, and the section on preperation, jogged my memory of a not so subtle mistake I made. My plan was to depart Pittwater on the 29th. Dec. I was due back from Coffs. by car, a few days prior to this but didn't arrive back till the 28th December. The time in between was to be spent doing a final check on Sally. When Derek said he checked the comms. before the 29th. I discovered that the VHF handheld batteries were flat and needed changing or recharging. A small mistake, but it can be critical. During a recent yacht race another skipper made the same mistake, and it had tragic consequences. A better strategy for my departure would have been to delay it,check everything thoroughly then go. A reminder to us all when we go offshore in particular.
